I don’t have anything to do with the following sites — no connection whatsoever — I am merely telling you where they are and that you can find all kinds of bootleg media content on these sites. I am not encouraging or coercing you to CLICK ON THESE in any way. By doing this, I am WILLFULLY AND CONSCIOUSLY COMMITTING THE SAME CRIME AS TV-LINKS.CO.UK, only on a smaller scale.

If authorities arrested a 26-year-old man from Cheltenham, UK and took down his web site, they must now come and arrest me and take down this site, because we are effectively committing the exact same crime, it is only a matter of SCALE that differentiates the two acts. The substantive act is legally equivalent.

Remember, it’s not Google Video and the others hosts of currently illegal media content who are to be persecuted … it’s those of us who create LINKS to that content. Also remember that not any URL or LINK is a crime, only a LINK to media content of any kind. So now there are Good Links and Bad Links. The URL’s themselves have become the agents of evil.

Yes, boys and girls, it is the LINKS THEMSELVES that are illegal, if the case in Gloucestershire County is to have any merit. And you could be next to be cuffed for engaging in such evil activity as Creating Hyperlinks.

Not since the brutal ages of overzealous religious censorship have particular sets of CHARACTER STRINGS been labeled as ILLEGAL. It seems, in fact, impossible that any written thought or word could be ILLEGAL in and of itself, given the Right of Free Speech as a fundamental human right. Unlike crying “fire” in a crowded theater, writing the word “fire” in a crowded movie review blog is not at all a threat to public safety.

The U.S. regularly dons it’s infamously imperious self-righteousness when protecting the rights of authors such as Rushdie, but where is the outrage in this very much equivalent case of CHARACTER STRINGS that express a BELIEF SYSTEM different that the current regimes. The “criminal” in this case hosts ZERO illegal content and yet is being charged as a criminal for expressing the belief that the current regime is wrong. That belief is expressed by publishing LINKS ONLY to content hosted elsewhere.

Back in the day, that kind of activity was call the The Right to Free Speech, the right to oppose the Current Establishment and make a case for why that Establishment should be modified to better express the Values upon which it is built. Yes, yes, it’s the UK and all, but the values between the UK and US have, for the most part, become so well aligned as to be culturally and functionally equivalent.

In the meantime, I’ll just be waiting for that knock on the door, here in what used to be The Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.
