if i more or less followed along correctly, it turns out that the behavior of chiral tangent vectors sliding around on the surface of a unit sphere is what constitutes the mathematical definition of curvature. however, it’s that powerful pedagogical prop known the water bottle that makes this rudimentary understanding  accessible to a general audience. :-)
