• Netflix brings EthernetTV Mainstream

Remember back in 1999-2001 when you asked, “why would anyone need all that bandwidth?” and missed the chance to completely OWN the new telecom infrastructure environment? Um, deet-duh-DEEEEE, dude. Netflix: Instant Viewing.

  • Jaman: Hi-Def Movies on Demand

Finally, a site that actually uses the word suh-weet, in context and for a legitimately defensible reason: obviating Netflix.

At Jaman, you download hi-def movies (rent or purchase). Better yet,  it’s not  homogenized  American cheese, but everything from Bollywood classics to crazy cult flicks, award-winning documentaries and American indie hits. In other words, actual entertainment.

Now, if only the geniuses had built the internet we explained in the first place, Netflix would pretty much be irrelevant by now. But so long as the USPS is still a faster download than the internet (which it will be for at least a decade, given the recentralization of the telecom industry), Netflix will be just fine.

  • Vudu – Movies by Ethernet

Vudu is a set-top box that connects to the Internet in order to bring movies to your television set, on demand.

Skirting around cable and movie rental and download services, Vudu aims to revolutionize the on-demand movie space. They’re set to offer movies that can be purchased or rented, and are ready to play as soon as you pick which movie you’d like to see (meaning no wait time for downloads). Vudu has signed deals with all the major studios, and 15 smaller ones, except for Sony Pictures, and they’ve already got a library of over 5,000 titles to choose from.
